About us

One club would never have been enough.

Two clubs, one group of students who would rather be outside. We ride out of the University of Ottawa from the first dry road in spring to the last one before the snow.

Two clubs, on purpose

uoCC

uOttawa Cycling Club

uoCC is the fast group. Longer routes, real climbs, and a pace that holds. Come if you are comfortable riding in a bunch and turning yourself inside out on a hill.

Typical pace
29 km/h

uoVélo

uOttawa Vélo

uoVelo is the social group. Nobody gets dropped, we stop for coffee, and the point is usually a road none of us has ridden before.

Sign the waiver

Once per season, no exceptions

Every rider signs before their first ride of the season. It is short, it is the same form for both clubs, and it is what lets the university keep letting us run group rides. If you have not signed, a ride lead will ask you to do it at the start line, which is a slow way to do something that takes two minutes now.

  • Bring a helmet. No helmet, no ride.
  • A bike in working order. Brakes and tyres get checked at the start.
  • Tell the ride lead if it is your first time out with us.
03

Lead a ride

Both clubs, all season

Ride leads are why either club works. You pick the route, set the pace, count heads at the turns, and make sure nobody rides home alone. You do not need to be the fastest person there. With uoVélo especially, the opposite is usually more useful.

What you get
Route planning help, a club kit discount, and first say on where we go.
What we ask
One ride a month in season, and a heads-up if you cannot make yours.
Who we want
Anyone who has ridden with us a few times and likes the people.

uoCC

Route too hard, pace too fast, start time impossible, someone being a problem: the uoCC committee reads all of it.
